Description

AS&M has an exciting opportunity for a (EV-EEE) Electronic Component Engineer - EEE Parts for Space Projects to join the team in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities

If selected, you will:

  • Report directly to the Electronics and Electrical Section Manager as part of group of 50 other Electronics and Electrical Engineers.

  • Provide Electrical, Electronic and Electromagnetic (EEE) parts support to the NASA xEVA Space Projects.

  • Evaluate proposed EEE Parts lists with respect to the projects specific hardware criticality and environments.

  • Report on the manufacturers, materials, construction, usage (environment & electrical de-rating), and overall reliability of the selected parts to the EEE parts control board (PCB).

  • Recommend replacement EEE parts.

  • Assist in EEE parts failure investigations.

  • Review Military and industry EEE parts specifications, standards and studies for application to NASA programs.

  • Assist in the development of EEE part qualification plans, project specific screening requirements, and Non-Standard Part Approval Requests (NSPAR).

  • Work in a laboratory environment as required, following standard operating procedures.

  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required for this position.

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • Supporting design reviews and product development teams.

  • Understanding of component selection, screening, qualification, and derating for use in space flight applications.

  • Providing technical support to material review boards (MRB’s).

  • Supporting project teams in EEE related activities including review and generation of project related documents such as procurement specifications and source control drawings (SCDs).

  • Assist in preparation, analysis and distribution of NASA Advisories and Government Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) Alerts.

  • Assist in part selection and obsolescence review.

  • Assist in electrical part failure investigation.

  • Assist design program in writing the NSPAR (Non-Standard Parts Approval Request) with the PCB info.

  • Assist RITF or other groups with DPA (Destructive Physical analysis) for any PCB as a condition for part approval.

  • Support project in finding Passive and Active components.

  • Passive components such as: Resistors, capacitors, transformers, etc. And Active components such as: ICs, transistors, diodes.

  • Development of part specifications and test procedures for space level parts.

  • Provide technical assistance to contracted tests labs and part manufacturers.

  • Provide customer/project team applications assistance.

  • Review electrical test data to verify part / lot acceptability.

Requisition Preferences

  • Knowledge of component failure modes, component reliability and NASA component specifications and standards.

  • Understanding of passive components, microcircuit, hybrid, semiconductor and discrete device fabrication.

  • Prior experience with accelerated reliability testing, reliability theory and component failure analysis.

  • Knowledge of the EEE parts used in high reliability military/DoD or space hardware and the associated US military test specifications and standards.

  • Experience with the development of EEE parts management plans, destructive physical analysis (DPA), and parts failure analysis desired.

  • Strong background in Electronic Engineering including knowledge of EEE parts, technologies and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with product development, pre-production activity, and product life cycle.

  • Expertise in developing the ionization radiation test plan based on mission objectives and desired reliability.

  • Conduct ionization radiation test based on the test plan and publish test result report.

  • Sourcing background in electronics industry and supply chain experience with electrical technologies and part manufacturers.

  • Proficient in MS Office programs, particularly MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote and Outlook.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
