AS&M has an exciting opportunity for a HVAC Mechanical Engineer to join the team in Hampton, Virginia, supporting the Maintenance Services group for the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract at NASA Langley Research Center.

Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineer with concentration in HVAC and refrigeration systems. HVAC Maintenance and Reliability Mechanical Engineer with a focus on maintenance and reliability.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Application of RCM methodologies, analysis of repetitive equipment failures, estimation of maintenance costs and evaluation of alternatives, assessing the needs for equipment replacements and establish replacement programs when due, assessing required maintenance tools and skills required for efficient maintenance of equipment, review of designs for maintainability.

  • Independently prepares (or directs others in the preparation of) criteria, computation/analyses, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports in the specific area of technical expertise.

  • Selects and applies engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problem, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity.

  • Reviews and evaluates the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from accomplishment of engineering tasks.

  • Assist HVAC shop craftsmen with troubleshooting and repair work.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.

Requisition Qualifications

Prefer a BS degree in appropriate discipline and one (1) to two (2) years engineering experience is preferred, or MS degree from an ABET college or university.

Work Environment

Office Environment (50%)

Test Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities (50%)

Travel between various facilities/test operations is required (5%)

Physical Requirements

Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (25%)

Standard office equipment - PC, telephone, fax, etc. (50%)

Safety and personal protective equipment (10%)

Attendance

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)

Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%)

Other Essential Functions

U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. Must be able to balance scope, schedule, and budget to ensure project success. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client.
