Description

AS&M has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the AS&M Team in Hampton, Virginia, to support our NASA customer. The engineer supporting this position will work within a highly integrated multidisciplinary development team composed of multiple Langley organizations, other NASA centers, industry and academia.

Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical engineering design, fabrication and test activities in support of the development of Human Landing Systems (HLS) hardware test capability at the LaRC LandIR facility (e.g., Lunar Landers, landing legs, etc.).

  • Provide engineering services as needed to generate conceptual designs, perform trade studies, develop Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and drawings, and perform mechanism and mass properties analyses.

  • Work closely with the team members from multiple NASA organizations and industry to accomplish the work.

  • Support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM’s) and reviews to represent the project segments under development at other NASA centers and various vendor and industry partners located at various geographical locations within the continental United States.

Qualifications

  • U.S Citizenship is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in mechanical engineering with 10 or more years of experience.

  • Must be able to use modern Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.

  • Serve as a member of specialized engineering team(s).

  • Ability to plan, design, and support fabrication of test articles for various space-related hardware.

  • Ability to communicate complex mechanical design and fabrication information to NASA and contractor staff.

  • Experience working with or for NASA in the past five years is highly desirable.

Work Environment

The primary work location will be at the NASA Langley Research Center.
